The 35Express project extends approximately 30 miles, through eight cities and two counties, from US 380 in Denton County to I-635 in Dallas County. The Design-Build project is expected to relieve traffic congestion in one of the most heavily traveled corridors in the North Texas region.
One of the highlights of the project is the construction of managed lanes down the middle of the interstate. Managed or tolled lanes give motorists another option when traveling during peak times. The lanes will have dynamic pricing, which means the cost to use the managed lanes will vary depending on the time of day and roadway congestion.
Other highlights of construction include:
- Additional general purpose lanes
- Reconstruction of the Belt Line Road interchange and FM 407
- New shared path for pedestrians and cyclists across the Lewisville Lake bridge, and
- Construction of a new southbound bridge over Lewisville Lake.
The project has been divided into three segments North, Middle and South.
The Northern segment of the project extends from US 380 in Denton County to Swisher Road (FM 2181). In Phase 1 of the project, motorists will have additional capacity along the bridges at North Texas Boulevard, Corinth Parkway and Post Oak Road. The interstate will travel over Corinth Parkway. The Middle segment of the project extends from Swisher Road/FM 2181 to President George Bush Turnpike. Approximately 12 miles in length, this segment will have two managed lanes in the center of the roadway and an additional general purpose lane in each direction. More information >
The Southern segment stretches from the President George Bush Turnpike (PGBT) to I-635. In this section, Dickerson Parkway will be extended from PGBT to I-35E and the Belt Line Road interchange will be reconstructed. Belt Line Road will be elevated to the current height of I-35E, and I-35E will be raised approximately 25 feet above its current elevation. Ranked as one of the most congested roadways in the state, the entire corridor is being reconstructed in two phases. Estimated cost to fund both phases of the project is $4.8 billion. Funding for Phase I, $1.4 billion, has been identified through federal, state and local resources as well as State Highway 121 regional toll revenue funds dedicated to Denton County.
